the Hemlock House
A Space for Working Artists
The Hemlock House is nestled deep in the Pisgah National Forest of Western, NC, in an incredibly peaceful and remote setting. Since 2018, the home has operated as an artist residency program having hosted artists from multiple disciplines. Actors, multi-media and conceptual artists, photographers, writers, dancers and musicians have filled the home’s rooms pursuing either solo or collaborative endeavors.
In hosting residencies, it is our greatest hope that working artists find a sense of peace, creative invigoration, respite and focus while being untethered from the hustle & bustle of the world below. It is also our hope that each artist will find inspiration in learning about the history of this little ghost town and the wonders of the forest surrounding it.
Contact us for more information on upcoming residencies and how to apply. Our books are closed for the 2026 year, but connect with us to be on the list for any openings or future consideration.
